A representative of University of Bengkulu attended IMT GT UNINET Meeting on 19-20 September 2018 at UTeM Melaka, Malaysia to finalize programs for 2019 – 2020.

As explained in its website (http://imtgt.org), The Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) is a subregional cooperation initiative formed in 1993 by the governments of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand to accelerate economic and social transformation in less developed provinces. Since its formation, IMT-GT has grown in geographic scope and activities to encompass more than 81 million people. It is now composed of 14 provinces in southern Thailand, 8 states of Peninsular Malaysia, and the 10 provinces of Sumatra in Indonesia.

IMT-GT is also growing in importance outside of its subregion. The ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) have recognised IMT-GT as a building block for the ASEAN Community Vision 2525. In addition, ASEC declared that IMT-GT projects and initiatives complement the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint by serving as a test-bed before the wider implementation of regional initiatives.

IMT GT UNINET is a comitment from university from Indonesia (especially Sumatra), Southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia to contribute to the missions of IMT GT in supporting the development in the region. During the meeting, 12 key projects are finalized. Those 12 projects cover area of sustainability and green growth. Participating universities need to set up their strategies to implement those projects, depending on their capacity. Participating universities are expected to develop working organization and project implementation team.

For University of Bengkulu, IMT GT UNINET is one way in contributing for regional development, as well as improving partnerships with other universities in region (Yansen).
