Mr. Yansen opened volunteer training on 23 February 2019. The theme of the event was “be part of international activities at Unib”. Office of Partnership and International Affairs (Kerja Sama dan Layanan Internasional – KSLI) University of Bengkulu has selected several students to become volunteers at KSLI for 2019. These students will help the implementation of KSLI programs and contribute to international activities at UNIB. They will serve as international buddies for international staff and students coming to Bengkulu. These volunteers will also help to organize activities and update information on social media and websites.
Mr. Yansen told the volunteers that “our mindset will determine our view to the world “. We are now entering the 4.0 Industry era, in which changes could happen anytime. Therefore, we are not only required to be smart, but also to be easily adapted to the changing conditions”. Furthermore, in a globalized world, students may have more chances to have international experiences. Volunteer program will not only allow students to help organizing activities at KSLI but also to provide them opportunities to develop networking. UNIB, through KSLI, also provides programs for students to have international experiences, such as International Student Mobility Program.
Ms. Velia, one of the volunteers in 2018, also gave a presentation during the training. She was sharing her experiences. She also had an opportunity to join international volunteering training program at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology in Surabaya. During that program, she met with other volunteers from other countries. Mr Naga Hasibuan, one of all KSLI’s staff, also motivated volunteers to be part of KLSI activities. He hope that the volunteers could be more motivated.
One of the participants, Rahmad Andika, said that “this training was very fun and the sponge cake was very delicious! Seriously, I like sponge cake”.
When the 2019 volunteers were walking out from KSLI office, they realized their responsibilities and they are very eager to contribute to international activities at UNIB.
